What's with the media blackout on violence against Egypt's Coptic
Christians? PennLive letters.
Where are the
balanced news reports of what is happening in Egypt?.
I am greatly
concerned that the print media has not mentioned that over 40 Coptic churches
were burned on one day, August 19, as well as Coptic family homes and
businesses; seven Copts were taken hostage. Those who are held hostage are the
fortunate ones as there were many unarmed and innocent individuals who were
slaughtered in the past few weeks.
I fail to see
why the press has ignored this. Only in the New York Times have photos of this
outrage been published, and that only on a page of paid advertisement. As in
the days of Moses and the Old Testament, the businesses and homes of Coptic
Christians throughout Egypt have been marked with an X, denoting that these may
be torched.
The only
protest I have learned about is that of a group of moderate Muslims who formed
a human chain around one of the Coptic churches to prevent its destruction.
I am naïve
enough to think it is the obligation of the press to bring the full story to
the American public.
